Summer Is Here!

Summer

Hey everyone!  Spring and summer are the times of year that I look forward to the most.  If I had to choose which time of the year I enjoy more, I’d probably say spring because the weather starts to get warm outside, but not too warm out.  As in, no heat waves.  Although, I do love the season of summer because swimming is a thing again, and there’s nothing better than a dip in the pool when it’s 90 degrees out but feels more like it’s over 100 degrees out. Oh, To Be A Bird…

Bird

Hey everyone.  So yeah, my articles as of late have been either about pop culture, or me talking about life and my feelings and blah, blah, blah.  And so once again I find myself putting pop culture to the side to talk about life and my feelings and blah, blah, blah.  Well, rather it’s a poem I wrote about how nice it must be to be a bird and just get to fly away. Daylight Savings Time Has Returned, But Then Again It Kind Of Never Really Left…

IMG_20190910_174838

It’s cold outside.  Pumpkin scented anything is everywhere from coffee to donuts.  Seasonal decorations are up.  That could only mean one thing.  The season of Fall is here!  There’s much to appreciate about this time of year during the season of Fall.  It’s the season where the leaves on the trees change to beautiful shades of red, orange and yellow.  It’s the season of Halloween.  It’s the season where there’s a bit of a chill in the air where it’s cold but not too cold out.  It’s the season of Thanksgiving.  There’s much to appreciate about this time of year, indeed.  Although, when the season of Fall arrives what returns along with it is, of course, the dreaded Daylight Savings Time! Life and Time… Is It Possible To Truly Appreciate A Moment In Time?

IMG_20191105_172619

In the series finale of the HBO television series Six Feet Under, the character of Nate says something that rings so very true to real life.  As his younger sister Claire is taking a picture of their family before she sets off to start a new journey in her life, Nate says to her, “You can’t take a picture of it.  It’s already gone”.  I watched this finale when it originally aired on TV, and it’s been a piece of television that has always stayed with me.  Although, it wasn’t until years later when I watched those last few moments of the finale again where I realized how true what Nate says to Claire really is.  Moments in time will always pass us by, even as we are living in those moments.  Since time is something that never stops, that continues to move forward every single second, is it possible to truly appreciate any moment we are living if time is constantly moving forward? Today’s Mood: Sad

20190122_183352

This summer was difficult.  I was sad.  I was depressed.  There were so many things that I found myself missing on a daily basis.  Most of all, I missed the feeling of feeling okay.  I missed the feeling of how today may not have been a great day, but there’s always the chance of how tomorrow could be better. “What Day Is It Again?”… The Reality Of Living In A Time Loop

Any kind of story that involves the aspect of someone reliving the same day over and over again, is the kind of story that will continue to fascinate me.  This concept of storytelling is best well known from the movie “Groundhog Day”, in which the main character of the story wakes up and continues to relive the same day over and over again.  Fast forward to these last few months, where real life has become like one of those scripted time loop stories that I am so fond of.  Where I am fond of stories that deal with the topic of time loops, I am much less fond of actually living in a time loop. Something Doesn’t Have To Be Exciting To Have Meaning…

I miss getting out and living life.  Since the getting out and living life part isn’t as possible to do these days, one could say I’ve been a bit bummed.  I’m not one who goes on glamorous vacations or one who gets invited to awesome parties hosted by life long friends.  Although, I was, up to the point of pause, getting out and enjoying my everyday simple daily outings of living life.  Whether it was seeing a show in the city, a trip to the mall, or a walk on the boardwalk. When Real Life Turns Into An Existential TV Drama…

20190104_180359

I’ve always been a fan of existential tv dramas.  I would say, though, that my appreciation for television series that dealt with that question of “Why?”, about life, didn’t come until a bit later in life for me.  Growing up, for the most part, I was a fairly happy person on most days.  I had friends, did okay in school, and participated in extracurricular activities.  Then high school ended.  In the years that followed, my friends stayed friends with one another and forgot about me, my stomach issues decided how my day would go, and that happy person I remembered being on most days seemed to disappear along with much of my self confidence.  So, to say the least, existential tv dramas were series on television that I came to appreciate, understand and relate to. Missing Those Summer Days…

20181124_014920

Summer is that time of year, for me, that really makes life worth living.  Days filled with sunshine and blue skies.  Days where the weather outside may be way too warm out, but that doesn’t really matter so much because swimming in a pool or the beach is always there.  And lastly, it’s been the days of summer that, in the past, had always been able to bring a sense of hope and happiness to me that today would be a good day. Trying To Get Past Those Winter Blues… Oh, hey Seasonal Depression!

IMG_20190718_023613

When I was younger and heard phrases like “winter blues” or “seasonal depression”, I never really quite understood it.  I never understood why just because winter comes a knocking on back into town why that would affect someone’s mood.  As I’ve gotten older, I get it.

The extreme cold in the air, along with early afternoons of the sun going away to make room for darkness in the sky are just a few reasons why I now understand why the months of winter would make someone’s attitude go from joyful to “eh”.
