Hello again, and welcome back to my weekly column series on my blog where I talk about all things in pop culture!
Today I will be talking about: The 2021 Golden Globe Nomination Snubs and Surprises
Last Wednesday on February 3rd the 2021 Golden Globe Nominations were announced. As always there were shows, movies, and performers that did not receive a nomination for this year’s awards that one would have expected to see receive a nomination. And, as always, there were shows, movies, and performers that did receive a nomination that one would not have expected to see receive a nomination. And so today, I will be discussing my thoughts on what I found to be this year’s biggest Golden Globe nomination snubs and surprises for television.
Snubs: TV Drama – Bridgerton
The Golden Globes is known for nominating new series. And the new series of the moment that has everyone talking is Bridgerton. The series has become one of the most popular series on Netflix since its premiere late last year. If there was one show that seemed like a shoe in to receive a nomination it would have been Bridgerton. But alas, when nominations were announced last week Bridgerton was left off the list of TV dramas to receive a nomination. Wonder what Lady Whistledown has to say about this?
Surprise: TV Comedy – Emily In Paris
Did I watch the show Emily In Paris? Yes. Did I think this show would receive a Golden Globe nomination for best TV comedy? That would be a “Heck No!” The show isn’t horrible, but it definitely wasn’t one of the best TV comedies of last year. For me, the show is just okay. It’s somewhat entertaining, and fun at times. And it’s possible I would like the show more if the social media aspect of the show wasn’t so non-stop on the series because it very much becomes quite annoying episode after episode.
Emily In Paris receiving a nomination for best TV comedy will never make sense to me. Sure, the show has its moments here and there where it’s somewhat okay, but overall the show just comes across as being very self absorbed with too much time on the series spent focused on social media instead of character development.
Surprise: Best Actress TV Comedy – Lily Collins
It should probably come as no surprise to see that I am surprised Lily Collins received a nomination after reading how I felt about Emily In Paris receiving a nomination for best comedy series. Lily Collins is definitely a great actress. My issue is not with Collins’s acting ability, but more with the character of Emily. Emily just comes across as annoying. A character you just don’t care for or about. Hopefully, the character of Emily will begin to evolve more next season to having some more depth, substance, and layers. That her character will be someone you care about and not be annoyed by.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s column for all things in pop culture! And remember just because I don’t care for a TV show doesn’t mean you won’t like that show. It’s just this TV Nerd’s opinion.
Thanks so much for reading!
I really don’t understand why Bridgerton didn’t get a nomination.

I agree. It just doesn’t make any sense that the show didn’t receive a nomination.
