Trying To Get Past Those Winter Blues… Oh, hey Seasonal Depression!

IMG_20190718_023613

When I was younger and heard phrases like “winter blues” or “seasonal depression”, I never really quite understood it.  I never understood why just because winter comes a knocking on back into town why that would affect someone’s mood.  As I’ve gotten older, I get it.

The extreme cold in the air, along with early afternoons of the sun going away to make room for darkness in the sky are just a few reasons why I now understand why the months of winter would make someone’s attitude go from joyful to “eh”.

Every winter I look outside during the early afternoon hours and say the same thing, “I can’t believe it’s dark out already!  It’s only 5 o’clock!”.  Seeing dark in the sky at such early hours in the day is a bummer.  Thanks Daylight Savings!  I say sarcastically, but of course.  The day before Daylight Savings starts is awesome because one gets an extra hour of sleep, but the day that Daylight Savings begins until the day it ends makes that one extra hour of sleep not worth it.  Why?  Because for months after that day it gets dark out by the early afternoon hours.

I don’t know about you, but it’s during the months of winter where my spirit gets a little bit crushed.  All the joy that comes from it simply just being spring or summer seems to vanish the moment that first sign of cold returns when summer is over.

Over the last few summers, I’ve come to realize how truly special that time of year really is.  I’ll try to do fun summer things outside like swimming, walking the boardwalk, or getting up earlier than I usually would to try and have a fun day.  There’s just an energy that comes with the warmer months that can brighten up the mind and soul.  And by spending my summer days outside enjoying the weather, I began to realize how much of a bummer it is when those days are taken away because of a change of the seasons.

Days filled with sunshine in the sky and warmth in the air from spring and summer are replaced with clouds in the sky and cold in the air when winter returns along back.  When it’s nice and warm out I feel optimistic and hopeful.  Whereas I feel the opposite of those feelings when the weather is so the opposite of warm or nice outside.

It’s currently mid- January.  Only a few more winter months to go until spring arrives again.  Where I can once again breathe in that nice warm air.  Where leaves once again return to the trees.  Where happiness returns once again just from it being the seasons of spring or summer.

Hope this article wasn’t too much of a bummer.  I’ll be back to writing about Pop Culture again in no time!  Anything in Pop Culture always brightens up my mood even during the winter months.  So feel free to add in the comments any of your current favorite TV Shows or Books!

Author: Jodi Fisher

Hello, everyone out there in the land of blogs! My name is Jodi Fisher. A hopefully interesting yet quiet gal who wishes she could afford to live in the Big Apple. Some of you out there may be wondering why I decided to start a blog. There are so many blogs out there, that I didn’t think it was worth it for something nobody might even read. Although, with this new year I decided why not? So here I finally am with my own blog. So what is my blog all about? Well, as I previously have mentioned I am a fan of all things entertainment. Television, theater, and books are my very favorites out of pop culture. There is a chance if you were to ask me about a random television show or stage play, I will probably know if it’s worth viewing. I am also someone who loves nostalgia and remembering the better times from my past. I usually like to incorporate my love of entertainment and nostalgia together, when I wrote my blog posts. Along with my fondness of entertainment, I am someone, who tries to notice the simple things in life. So in ending this little tidbit about who I am, my goal in starting this blog is to just simply be me and write about things that I find interesting and entertaining.
